Question: The Recent Search History doesn't display anything anymore after following the instructions. But, when I put my cursor in the Search box it still automatically displays the keywords I used before. Can we still remove those?

Information here is outdated and no longer applies. For example, 101f0445 is not in my registry.

It still works, make sure you close Outlook first before deleting the 101f0445 key and for good measure create these 2 registry entries, DisableServerAssistedSearch and DisableServerAssistedSuggestions.

      See here: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/outlooking/2017/04/27/how-outlook-2016-utilizes-exchange-server-2016-fast-search/

Just wanted to say it didn't work right away for me. I had Outlook 2016 open while I did it the first time. Saw a comment to close Outlook first so I typed in some random numbers into the search and closed Outlook. Deleted 101f0445 again (after the search. Opened Outlook and no search history! Hoping this comment will help anybody reading these instructions now.

Yes, it works beautifully--to remove a very annoying feature. Just make sure that you close Outlook before beginning the steps indicated above.

This works in Outlook 365 (2016), but only for the 'Recent Searches' drop-down. But the really annoying location where this list still shows up is in the standard e-mail search window. I still see the recent searches pop-up as soon as I click into the 'Search Current Mailbox (Ctrl+E)' text box. Is there a way to delete or disable that feature?

I too have this same issue...how do you delete the search field for (Ctrl+E) options?

          Hi Avinash,
Have you restarted Outlook after removing the 101f0445 key in the Registry Editor window? Normally the introduced way will clear all search history from the Instant Search box (Ctrl + E).

Is it the small search box with the clock icon next to it ? 3 lines of previous searches with clock icon ?

I am having the same issue. I want to disable that feature because it has gotten to the point that it is really annoying. Especially when I have to do several searches during the day.

Please share if found a solution. Editing registry entry hasn't helped with "Ctrl+E".

ok, why the heck can't there be an easier way to do this without editing the REgistry? There should be an easy way to do it, or let us manually clear the ones we want to clear. Nice fail MS.

    Hi Team,

Thanks for the great write up! I want to thank you guys big time, and I want to note in case it helps anyone else out there that the key in windows 10 outlook 2016 may be in a different location. I ran in to this same situation, the recent search autocomplete is very annoying and tends to get in the way of my workflow (i use a lot of keyboard shortcuts). In outlook 2016 the key is in a slightly different place, so if it helps anyone here is where I found the key based on the article information within my registry in windows 10 and outlook 2016:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles\Outlook\0a0d020000000000c000000000000046\101f0445

I modified the value to erase all the data in the registry key after backing up the registry and the change worked immediately after restarting outlook.

If you cannot find 101f0445, try closing Outlook first and then navigate to the path Alberto listed above within Registry Editor. It should appear after closing Outlook. After deleting 101f0445, the search history should be erased upon re-opening Outlook.
